WHO: The misuse of antibiotics in Uzbekistan is at a high level.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has published an interim report on Uzbekistan for 2024–2025. The report highlights the incorrect use of antibiotics and extremely low vaccination rates in the country.

In particular:

  • In 2024, the rate of childhood vaccination against major diseases in Uzbekistan dropped to its lowest level since 1997. This increases the risk of infectious disease outbreaks.
  • The capacity for early detection and monitoring of infections is limited.
  • Laboratories are poorly equipped technically.
  • Electronic prescriptions and digital monitoring systems are mainly used in urban areas.
  • In rural areas, most doctors and patients lack digital literacy, leading to incorrect or delayed treatment.
  • The misuse of antibiotics in Uzbekistan remains high, and WHO considers this a serious epidemiological threat for the future.
