Many patients come to us complaining about eyelid twitching. Some believe it is a superstition, while others attribute it to illness.
Eyelid twitching, which occurs when tired or stressed, usually goes away after some rest.
If the twitching happens frequently, is more severe, or becomes more prominent, it could be a sign of an underlying illness. It mainly occurs in children. Eyelid twitching is observed in children with throat infections, such as tonsillitis or sinusitis. Such cases are also characteristic of blepharospasm. For treatment, a general blood test is taken from the patient, and neurological examinations are conducted to determine the cause.
In most cases, eyelid twitching is not a separate disease but rather a symptom of other conditions.
